Firstly, I need to add a disclaimer saying that I don’t encourage eating so much food nor do I support overeating. My obsession with Madurai food is what drove me to take the decision of trying this ‘Virundhu’. I don’t know what’s the Karmic connection I have with Madurai, but I jump with joy just by the mention of it. I’ve had Madurai Thala Vazhai Virundhu in Chennai but never in Madurai.
So, this is a newly opened place. It was 15 days old when I visited. But, they have already gained popularity and that’s why my Madurai connect suggested I try this place. And, Wowww what an experience it was. No, I’m not talking about the spread here but I’m expressing about the taste. I hope and pray that this place would maintain their quality/taste. They serve normal menu, too. But, I opted for the Murattu Single Combo (₹299) which comes with 21 items. Pre-booking was mandatory and so, I’d called a day ahead and made booking for 4 Virundhus.
It won’t be tough for me to write about this Virundhu as all I can say is I liked each and everything that was served. The Virundhu kickstarted with a kick-ass Crab Soup. It was spicy with spot-on spices and everything that a good soup should have.
The Era (Prawn) Kal Soru was very well made. It’s been a really longgg time since I’ve had a satisfying Mutton Kuzhambu experience and here it was the best-uu out of the 3 gravies (Chicken and Fish). Didn’t opt for the Ratha Poriyal (Goat’s Blood) as I’m not used to eating it. They offered to replace it with another dish but I politely refused as 20 items is good enough a number for that price.
There was Kozhi Uppukari, Nandu Fry, Kaadai, Chettinad Chicken, Mutton Chukka, Chicken 65, Chicken Lollipop, Valiyal (Kalakki), Fish Fry (Paarai), Boiled Egg (Half) and Omelette (Half). There were Vegetarian dishes too, which were blurry to me and I didn’t look at them😬 .Kesari carried the sweet part of Virundhu along with Bread Sweet (Shahi Tukda types), Orange Mittai, Kadalai Mittai and Pepper(a) Mittai. It was a nice feeling to relive the Pepperaa Mittai days😊
Totally paid ₹1196 for 4 Murattu Single Combos. I’d requested for something cold to drink while having the food there and we were served Mint Cooler, which was okayish. It was not included in the Bill. Not sure if they forgot to bill us or they were generous enough to include it into the Virundhu upon request.
