A brand that expands fast scares me a lot. I genuinely believe in “Slow & Steady” winning the race. Within a few months of their takeaway Kitchen, Pondy Sri Kamatchi has opened a Dine-in restaurant. But, this Dine-in of Kamatchi is much needed in the city for staunch believers like me. On days, when I don’t want to experiment and just eat, places like Kamatchi will be handy.
The menu is the same as the Ekkaduthangal takeaway Kitchen. But, non-availability of a lot of items is a spoiler. Viral Meen, Ayirai Meen Kuzhambu were all not available on the day, I went. Their combos are a good idea though.
My friend and I settled for Non-Vegetarian Meals (₹150) which was really good. I’m still confused if it’s a Limited meal or Unlimited. Because, while taking order we were told it’s limited but while eating, someone came asked if we wanted more rice to be served. Either ways, for me what was first served was quiet enough. Loved all the 3 Non-Vegetarian gravies (Fish/Mutton/Chicken) from the Meals, equally.
Force ordered the Super Mutton Combo (₹350) for another friend so that I can taste it. Usually, I don’t have a high opinion about Biryani from Kamatchi but I must add here that I was proved wrong. The Mutton Biryani (Seeraga Samba) in the combo was too good. And, the Mutton Rice which was more like Perattal Rice was good, too. Kamatchi is one of the few places I know of, that serves White Rice and Rasam if you order Biryani. So, the combo also had White Rice + Rasam + Curd along with Chicken 65 and a Chicken Pepper Fry.
My order from Kamatchi should and would feature their Prawn Kuzhi Omelette (₹185), for sure. Prawns Roast (₹225) was well made. The resultant of the upselling from their smart service staff was the Fish Porichadhu (₹225) which was a whole Deep-Fried Paarai Fish. It tasted good.
Totally paid ₹1248 along with a Fizzy Apple Drink.
