New Moorthy Cafe, Anna Nagar:

A very good friend of mine was the first to intimate me about the arrival of New Moorthy Cafe. She’d mentioned a month back about seeing the banner announcing their arrival in place of Fisherman’s Fare in Anna Nagar. One and a half years back, I’d taken a solo trip to Chidambaram just to try their Parottas and Kadaai Chicken. Now, to know that they are available in Chennai is a great feeling. Chennai doesn’t have dearth of Parotta places but still I personally feel Moorthy Cafe will be a value-add to our food scene.

Without any deviation ordered only what they are known for (except their Lappa). Parotta (₹15/pc) was exactly what a good Parotta should be – fluffy, soft with necessary crunchiness here and there. Pairing it with their signature Kadaai Chicken (₹200) can and should never go wrong. Wherever be the origin of Kadaai Chicken, for sure the masters of Moorthy Cafe have mastered it. The complimentary Salna was the best. Runny egg lovers, can’t miss having their signature Muttai Chutney (₹120).

One glance at the table next to me and the Biryani in their plate, I ended up ordering one for our table, too. Mutton Biryani (₹195) was short grained, quiet oily with a few irritants. Not among the best of Biryanis I’ve had before but average tasting with it’s soft Mutton Pieces. I found it quiet spicy according to my spiciness tolerance levels. Kal Pepper Chicken (₹120) with it’s high pepper-y notes was certainly a winner.

Total bill was ₹950 for 3 Pax along with Fresh Lime Soda (₹60) and Mint Lime (₹60) which were passable.
